Montgomery Seaver (n.d.); Notes on the ancestry of Roxanna Brown Davis compiled by Willian Davis (1929), and the ancestery and posterity of Joseph Davis, (1773-1865) of Norway, New York and his wife Elizabeth Hallock Davis compiled by William Davis (1927). Issue of Assembly (Winter 1959) containing Davis obituary.

Graduated as 2nd Lieutenant from West Point in 1890 ; stationed at the Presidio in 5th U.S. Artillery. In 1894 graduated U.S. Artillery School, sent to Fort Collins, Colo. (1896). Promoted to 1st Lieutenant and sent to Fort McHenry (1898). Shipped out to the Philippines (1899) in charge of Army Transport Service, Manila. Appointed Captain (1900) and rose to Colonel.
